2 Most Important Steps to Any Home Remodeling Project

Are you finally ready to make your home remodeling plans a reality but don’t know where to start? Remodeling can be exciting, but it can also be incredibly stressful, with the possibility of unwanted surprises popping up on you. Careful planning can help minimize the stress and maximize the fun of making home upgrades. Read our latest blog to learn the 2 most important steps to any home remodeling project: budgeting and planning.

Budgeting your Home Remodel Project

Budgeting is probably the least enjoyable part of any remodeling process, at least for most people. Unfortunately, you can’t have a successful remodeling project without a well-thought-out and put-together budget. At the end of the day, it’s best to make your budget work for you than put yourself under unnecessary stress in scrambling to fund and complete your project. In creating a budgeting plan for your project, consider the following:

  • What price range are you looking to stay within? What is the max you are willing to spend?
  • Financing options– Are you planning to pay in cash, through a loan, or a line of credit?
  • What are your top priorities?
  • Outlining your cost estimates – How much are you willing to spend on each of the elements or features in your design?

Planning Your Home Remodel Project

A successful remodeling project requires extensive research.

Taking the time to do your research can help you better understand what you want and fully know all your options. Here are some helpful topics to look into:

  • Contractors -Talk to friends or family members to see if they can refer you to one, obtain as many bids from contractors, research their qualifications, check for references, check to see if they’re available, note how well they communicate (good communication can signal their reliability), etc.
  • Materials – What kind of materials are you looking to implement into your design? Are they worth the price tag? Are there alternatives that can do and give you that same effect but at a more cost-effective price?
  • Cost of your project vs. (added) value of your home – Will this project add to your home value? If so, to what degree?
